A US Cartoon Actually Aimed At An Older Audience

Initially this will be a series of short webisodes. This is not for kids. I for one think it is about time that American animation companies make something for older audiences. Sequential art has moved beyond entertainment for children, it is something adults enjoy whether they fail to acknowledge it or not. This is also proof that SDCC is worth going to, as this was premiered there, and the secret was kept under tight wraps. NO ONE saw this coming! There was a huge surprise hinted at, but everyone thought the huge surprise was going to be some large vehicle or playset. Imagine the surprise when it was revealed as a cartoon for the older fans, something most never dreamt would happen.

Now the old G.I. Joe cartoon was definitely aimed at a younger audience and its painfully obvious. Snake Eyes in that cartoon was the mute ninja commando who didn't do much else other than save people, silently at that. In the preview footage I linked above, within a matter of seconds he has already killed 3 people or more. Ninja star to the face, stabbing someone through the head, stabbing someone and then twisting his wakizashi to finish the trooper off. Now this is something that is familiar to the comic fans, but to cartoon fans? No such thing existed prior to this clip!
In fact for the of touted bad ass ninja commando mute from the comic, Snake Eyes never killed anyone in the old cartoon! In fact he didn't do much ninjutsu, or show off his commando abilities much either!

G.I. Joe Resolute is animated by the same crew behing Avatar:The Last Airbender. A great cartoon, in the US there should be more stuff like it, but unfortunately for us, there isn't. In Japan you have anime aimed at older audiences all the time. In the U.S., the only animated series that really cater to us in recent memory are Avatar, any of the Timm directed DC cartoon series, and little much else. Comics and animation in America are still viewed as children's entertainment, the same goes for toys.
